Community Radio Toolkit

Community radio is an extraordinary thing. It happens all over the world, has many common threads and yet every station is as unique as the community it serves. The Community Radio Toolkit is an attempt to make life easier for people setting up and running community radio stations by publishing and discussing the things that we have in common – making life easier to allow you to spend more time on the things that make you unique.

The brief

Radio Regen wanted to refresh the Community Radio Toolkit website, creating a new, responsive design that would work well across different devices, and reflect the branding used in the print book.

The website has a mixture of the Community Radio Toolkit book – published in 2005 by Manchester-based charity Radio Regen – along with other resources produced more recently such as the Social Media section. While the Community Radio Toolkit is UK-based, over 20% of users are non UK-based.

The solution

The website continued to use WordPress, an open source CMS that is widely used with a rich ecosystem of support. Radio Regen had limited funding so to keep development costs down we used the bootstrap framework, to provide a lot of functionality ‘out of the box.

What I did

  • Responsive Design
  • Web Design
  • Web Development
John is a rare breed in web professionals - creatively and technically gifted while being a thoroughly nice person to work with. We felt he was very much on 'our side' with what was quite a large site and happy to suggest things that might save us time/money too - can't recommend him enough.
